What to Expect

We are a congregation of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. As Morgantown is a transient community, so our church has had its share of people coming and going. At present we are approximately 79 communicant members and 45 non-communicant members. God has blessed us with a mix of ages, from mature individuals and families, to young families and single individuals, and an abundance of covenant children!

What can I expect when I visit?

When you visit with us you can expect to be welcomed by our greeters, to worship our God with reverence and awe, and be invited to a meal with one of our families.

What is the worship service like?

The worship service is in accordance with the regulative principle for worship: allowing only what God prescribes in worship. We believe that we are entering into God’s throne room in the heavenly sanctuary and should conduct ourselves with reverence and awe.

The worship service is covenantal: God speaks through His word and we respond with praise in song, with prayer, with offerings and with reverential hearing of God’s word read and preached. The Lord’s Supper is celebrated monthly. Baptisms are performed as covenant children are born and as unbaptized new believers profess their faith.

How long is the worship service?

The worship service is generally an hour and fifteen minutes in the morning and an hour in the evening.

What is the music like?

The music is sung by the congregation out of the Trinity Hymnal (the blue hymnal), the Psalter Hymnal (the red hymnal) and accompanied by piano. Our singing is to the praise of God’s glory (Psalm 33:1-3) and to our instruction in His word (Colossians 3:16). Therefore, words are more important than the music; the words must be consonant with the word of God to appropriately glorify God and to instruct us.

What are the sermons like?

The sermons are biblical, Christ centered preaching. As Christ is the focus of all the Scriptures (Luke 24:25-27), the crucified and resurrected Christ is the focus of each sermon. Preaching is generally done through a book of the Bible; from time to time topical sermons are preached.

What should I wear?

Our clothing should be such that it does not draw undue attention to ourselves and therefore detract from our worship of God.

Where do my children go during the worship service?

God is glorified by worship from believers and their children. As such, parents are encouraged to keep their children with them in the worship service as much as possible. A nursery is provided to assist our parents in caring for their children. As the nursery is staffed by volunteers, parents are encouraged to be conscientious in their use of the nursery.

What’s happening this week?

Please see our Calendar for a list of upcoming events. Please be careful to note day, time and location as these can change from week to week.

Where do I park my vehicle?

Parking is available on the streets surrounding the church building. Please be careful to park on the street where the curbs are painted blue. Parking on yellow painted curbs would be illegal and would result in ticketing and/or towing. Congregants typically use Arch St. and Green St. to park. Should you need assistance, please pull up to our front entrance and inquire of us.

What is your policy concerning participation in the Lord’s Supper?

The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper is observed on a regular basis. We invite all who are confessing members in good standing in Bible-believing churches to join us at our Lord’s Table. At the same time, we must remember the Bible’s warning that we examine ourselves before we participate, lest we eat and drink judgment on ourselves (I Cor 11:27-29). For this reason, the elders of Reformation Orthodox Presbyterian Church have adopted a Lord’s Supper Policy containing five questions of self-examination.

We Invite You

The Church of Jesus Christ is ruled by the Word of God. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and we seek to confess the faith and to live the life that is declared in the Scriptures. We are not interested in being fashionable according to the dictates of this sin-broken world, but instead our interest is to be faithful to God’s truth. We invite you to hear and learn the Word of God together with us.

The Church of Jesus Christ is the assembly of God’s people already gathered on the earth. One day it will be gathered in heaven forever. Our home country is heaven and our king is God and his son Jesus Christ. We invite you to become a part of this assembly.

The Church of Jesus Christ is the family of God. We are born into this family by the sovereign grace and mercy of God, through faith in Christ. Our Savior came down from heaven in order to enlarge the family of God. For all who believe in him, his Father has become their Father (John 20:17). We invite you to become a member of this family.

The Church of Jesus Christ consists of the servants of God. Our chief purpose is to glorify God and enjoy him forever (Westminster Shorter Catechism #1). God is not our servant to do our bidding. We are his servants to do his bidding. “For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen” (Romans 11:36). We invite you to serve God together with us.

The Church of Jesus Christ is a worshipping community. In worship we show our gratitude to God for our salvation in Christ. We give expression to our desire to live for his glory. We repent of ignoring him, making idols and of steering our lives by our own selfish concerns. We invite you to come and worship God the Father, through His Son Jesus Christ and by the Holy Spirit.
